Carolinas Writers Conference

     The Carolinas Writers Conference was held from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at the Lockhart-Taylor Center in Wadesboro, North Carolina.

     The conference was presented by the Anson County Writer's Club, South Piedmont Community College and the Carolina Romance Writers.

2009 Presenters

Robert InmanRobert Inman: A novelist, screenwriter, playwright and essayist, Inman was known locally as a Charlotte television anchor and Sunday columnist in The Charlotte Observer before he retired from journalism to pursue his passion for writing. Inman's works capture the Southern experience. His novels are Captain Saturday, Dairy Queen Days, Home Fires Burning and Old Dogs and Children. Home Fires Burning was a Hallmark Hall of Fame production in 1989. Other TV dramas include A Son's Promise, 1990; Cries from the Heart, 1994, My Son is Innocent, 1996; The Summer of Ben Tyler (Hallmark Hall of Fame), 1997; and Family Blessings, 1999. Plays and Musicals include a musical adaptation of Dairy Queen Days; Crossroads (Musical); and The Christmas Bus, also book and a play. Inman is a native of Elba, Ala. Glenis RedmondGlenis Redmond: Through her poetry, Redmond tells stories from her life, her family, her African-American heritage and her observations of the world around her. She recently released a CD, Monumental: Soaring on the Wings of Love. She has published a full-length book of poetry, Backbone, and three chapbooks: Naming It, If I Ain't African and Word Power (children's). Her awards include the Cary McCray Literary Award (1995), Asheville Arts Council grant (2001), Atlantic Center for the Arts Fellowship (1995, 2002), Vermont Studio Center Fellowship (1998, 2002) and Mountain Xpress, Best Poet of Western North Caolina (1999, 2002). Robert MacomberRobert Macomber: A Different Kind of Honor won the American Library Association's 2008 W.Y. Boyd Literacy Award for Excellence in Military Fiction. His sea-faring novels also include At the Edge of Honor, Point of Honor, Honorable Mention, A Dishonorable Few, An Affair of Honor, and A Different Kind of Honor. The series follows the career of protagonist Peter Wake as an officer in the United States Navy from the Civil War onward. Macomber is also a noted lecturer on naval history and steams thousands of miles each year on the Queen Mary II and Queen Victoria as guest author and lecturer. Judi McCoyJudi Mccoy: Judi McCoy has published fourteen romances. She also teaches the Romantic Times convention’s aspiring author course, and gives workshops on a variety of writing topics. Hounding the Pavement, her first mystery, was released in March 2009. All royalties earned from the book will be donated to the largest no-kill shelter in the US, Best Friends in Kanab, UT. The book, a continuing tale of a New York City dog walker, has been optioned by CBS and Paramount Productions to be turned into a weekly television series. Judi currently resides on Virginia's peaceful eastern shore. A retired women’s gymnastic judge, she keeps busy raising orchids and writing the next book in her unique dog walker series.
